The new Ext4 filesystem seems to be on the verge of substituting the incumbent Ext3.I found a couple of articles on IBM explaining and comparing the features of the new filesystem: here's the Anatomy of ext4 by M. Tim Jones, and here's the Migrating to ext4 one by Roderick W. Smith.
